It is an honor to be a board of trustees member, this marathon symbolizes the unity of the Lebanese people with all their different religious and political backgrounds to run for honorable and charitable causes. It really puts Lebanon on the map after the crucial wars that this country has been through; the great proof is other Arab countries are taking after us in organizing their own marathons, even asking the help of our expert organization to do so.

Name:
Mouzayan Siklaoui Ajami
Mrs. Mouzayan Siklaoui Ajami began
working on a voluntary basis with several Non Governmental and Governmental
Organizations from a very early age. Motivated by a need to make a difference in
the humanitarian field and armed with a great deal of resolve and initiative,
she steadily progressed into many leadership positions that afforded her the
chance to become a catalyst in the Development field in Lebanon.
In 1987 Mrs. Ajami became a member of the Lebanese Red Cross Committee and
served in different positions such as Public Relations officer in 1989.
The concept of leadership manifested itself before Mrs. Ajami when she found
herself amid a broken country devastated by the war, which came like an
unpleasant surprise like any war. Mrs. Ajami witnessed the wrecked
communication, thousands of civilians displaced, others trapped under the
bombing, and the need for rescue was rising.
Through her personal contacts and resourcefulness she almost single handedly
coordinated relief efforts to the Tyre area, making sure that food, medical
supplies, and other necessary relief materials reached the city and its
surrounding towns on a regular basis. Mouzayan had to activate her network in
order to provide the funds needed to buy the supplies for at least 4,000
families or an average of 30,000 persons, bearing in mind that the bridges were
damaged and the few existing suppliers were overloaded due to the war.
After the offensive ended and in coordination with many national and
international organizations, and specifically with the Saudi Red Crescent, she
took an active role in the reconstruction effort by creating programs of
alternative housing for the displaced families and later establishing ties with
donor organizations to activate the reconstruction effort and restore the
displaced to their towns. As a result of her exemplary leadership and efforts
she was then voted to be the head of the Lebanese Red Cross Local Committee. For
decades, the Lebanese Red Cross members were dreaming of a building to be used
as a base. It is worth mentioning that all the members are volunteers and count
on funding to get anything. Mrs. Ajami shared the dream and decided to turn it
into a reality, the same dream that everyone else thought it was impossible. She
continued working on developing the local community by acquiring a piece of land
from the Lebanese Government, and overcoming many odds succeeded in building a
center for the Red Cross in Tyre, funded by the Red Cross and the Red Crescent
International federation Geneva, servicing Southern Lebanon, and the first of
its kind in the country that houses all the different departments in one locale,
and this has made her own challenge and dream to a reality, this is not all,
Mrs. Mouzayan’s future project is to find a Blood Bank in Tyr, for its highly
needed in the South Area, which she is working on lately and getting funds for.
Mrs. Mouzayan also coordinates with many organizations, in order to fill the
needs of the community. She has been able to procure funding from UN Peace
Keeping Mission, UNIFIL of seventy thousand Euros, to create a professional
Athletics playground in the Tyre Public Garden.
Mrs. Ajami has taken on leadership roles in many organizations that work on the
development aspect of Lebanese society, and has occupied the following
positions:
Coordinator for Lebanese NGOs and
the Italian INTERSOS for development programs
Coordinator for the Japanese
Embassy on the “Japanese Rural Development Program”
Coordinator of Saudi Red Crescent
for welfare programs in South Lebanon.
Coordinator of Qatar Red Crescent
and United Arab of Emirates to secure welfare, financial, water tanks and ready
made houses for villages and construction aid.
Coordinator of Health and
Environmental Committee in the Union of Tyre Region Municipalities (72
villages). Representing the municipalities and coordinating their work with
International organizations and UNIFIL.
Active membership in the
environmental organizations: Amwage Environment org. and environment
preservation.
Member of the Executive Board of
the Beirut Marathon Association.
Coordinator of the Lebanese
Association for handicapped.
Member of the Organizational
Committee of the Tyre International Festival
Co-founder honorary president of
Phoenicia sportive club.
Honorary member in several NGOs
and Scouts.
All of this
activity is indicative of a motivated leader with boundless energy, as Mouzayan
also takes time to attend and participate in many seminars and professional
training sessions some of which are:
-
Workshop on Environmental development by the European Union.
-
Institutional Planning by the Italian Cooperation/Lebanon.
-
Initiating CIMIC programs in Lebanon by Caritas Italy.

many awards and medals from various organizing bodies and associations,
including but not limited to the following:
-
Certificate from General Graziano/ Force Commander – UN Peace Keeping in
Lebanon (UNIFIL).
-
Trophy

-
Certificate from Saudi Red Crescent.
Mrs. Mouzayan
Siklaoui Ajami, a woman who unfortunately has experienced many conflicts and
witnessed the wounds of the most vulnerable people, helpless waiting for a
shadow of light and hope has found the strength to act even though there was no
obligation or official duty for her to do so. Being a person with a long
history of civil service who sees need, and finds a way to create order out of
chaos, she realizes the human essence of each individual is enough stimulation
to do what they can do to mitigate the suffering, provide the support and take
lead of what she knows best and that is serving the people.
