Lebanese Heroes

Life is full of opportunities… the Marathon presents you with the chance to become a hero… Running 42.195km is a heroic activity by anybody’s standards… a very small population of the world has ever done it. So… if you want to stand out amongst the six billion people who call planet earth home… join us and run a marathon!
We have chosen 9 Lebanese people who have all excelled in running marathons and they are our Beirut Marathon Association Marathon Heroes. These are all ordinary people who have set out to do the Extraordinary; and that’s why they are heroes.

Read all about their lives, read about their achievements and then set out on your own journey to become a Marathon Hero… we are all watching you!

YOU! Become a hero by telling us your story!

"A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts."
Steve Prefontaine

Message from Edward

Dear All,

Here I am back today from the hospital where I was around 4 month suffering from the injury that I had back in China.
In May during my training I had a small accident, and after the wound that I had opened during the Paralympics games in China .
It wasn't a good news for me and I was doing very well in the competitions and I was looking forward to joining the World Championships this year which will take place next week in Bogono in Italy.
After talking with my doctor the decision was to make an operation for the wound. I knew that the procedure will take long time but there isn't any other solution. I knew that I had to stay couple of weeks in bed which is a big punishment for me. But there are some things in life we have to deal with and accept it as is.
After waiting couple of weeks at home waiting for my operation, I got a letter that the operation was planned on the 4th of July, and after the operation I had to stay 6 weeks lying in bed on my back to let the wound heal. After 6 weeks I began sitting on my wheelchair slowly everyday.
And here I am back home today, very happy, to see my kids again, and to be free again, and that I will be able to start my training again as well.
Sure after the darkness that I passed through, in the end the sun rised again and hopefully I wont have this problem anymore to concentrate on my next targets that I would like to reach.
Hope from now to begin again what I was doing and come back as soon as possible to race again.

Best Regards,
Edward Maalouf
